What is 3D secure?
3D Secure, also known as a payer authentication, is a security protocol that helps prevent fraud on online transactions using debit and credit cards. When 3D Secure is enabled, customers using their cards to complete an online purchase must perform an additional verification step. For example, at the time of payment on a website, customers are diverted to a secure website and asked to provide an OTP (one-time password) as an additional security measure. This OTP is usually sent by SMS to the consumer's registered mobile number. At NayaPay, we authenticate 3D secure transactions with an additional step: you receive an in-app notification when a 3D secure transaction is being attempted, select if you would like to proceed or cancel if you don’t. If you choose to proceed, your MPIN (or fingerprint, if configured) will be verified in order to approve the transaction.
